hardcore geekdom...

sometimes my geekiness scares even me. in responding to a post on rllmuk, i set upon the challenge of documenting my favourite 100 games. sounds easy? it ain't. it's a bitch. and it took fecking ages. once i'd finally decided upon my list i got the misses (who's an accountant) to dump it into excel so i could do a bit of statistical analysis. we made pie charts and everything.

here's my post:

Forget who started this topic - but you're a bastard. This has taken up way too much of my time over the last few days.

However, I personally found it to be very interesting. Got my girlfriend to dump it into Excel so I could do some statistical analysis. Was amazed that very nearly a quarter of the games were on PS2 (24 in total).

In fact, the format breakdown (top 10 at least) goes as follows:
PS2 - 24
Xbox - 11
Saturn - 10
SNES - 8
Dreamcast - 6
Gamecube - 5
NES - 5
Megadrive - 5
Amiga - 4
Gameboy - 3

I was surprised to see Saturn beat the SNES, and that Gamecube was so far down. As for developers, this top 10 is not really so surprising:
Nintendo - 16
Sega - 15
Capcom - 7
Konami - 5
Namco - 4
Sony - 4
Bizarre - 3
Rockstar - 3
Bioware - 2
Bungie - 2

Top 5 controlled by the Japanese, but good to see the Brits getting in at 7 and 8.

Anyway, as for top 100, it looks as follows (validity of the ordering decreases the further down the list you get):
1 Super Mario World - SNES
2 Sensible Soccer 96-97 - Amiga 1200
3 Pro Evolution Soccer 5 - PS2

Like some other posters have said, there are undoubtedly some omissions certain folk would be horrified with (Ocarina, Half Life 2, FFVII etc.) but I have to base the list on my personal experience. I could never get into Half Life 2, don't really dig RPG's and for some reason have never gotten around to playing Ocarina.
